

LEE SPENCER WHITE is a seventh-generation Texan whose fourth-great-grandfather, Gordon C. Jennings, died in defense of the Alamo. Over the past twenty years White has founded the Alamo Defender Descendants Association, and actively researched Alamo history across several states and Mexico. She is an active preservationist who was nominated for the Governor’s 2006 Texas Women’s Hall of Fame Award. Lee has been interviewed hundreds of times by national newspapers such as The Chicago Tribune and Dallas Morning News about her historical research and preservation efforts. Additionally, she serves on boards for the Former Texas Rangers Association and the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission. She is also the co-auther of the upcoming book Last Soul Standing, an historical narrative about Joe, a slave owned by famed Alamo commander William Barret Travis. Lee is also a favorite speaker among Texas historical organizations, and has also worked as an historical consultant for The History Channel, Dearg Films and the BBC. She resides on a South Texas ranch with her husband, Larry, and their daughter, Sam.

RON J. JACKSON, JR. is an award-winning journalist whose career spans twenty-five years. He is the author of Alamo Legacy: Alamo Descendants Remember The Alamo (Austin: Eakin Press, 1997), Blood Prairie: Perilous Adventures On The Oklahoma Frontier (Waco: Eakin Press, 2007), and numerous magazine articles on the American West. He is also the co-author of the upcoming book Last Soul Standing, an historical narrative about a slave named Joe who miraculously survived the 1836 Alamo battle. In addition, Jackson has worked as an historical consultant for The History Channel and appeared as a featured speaker for several historical organizations. In 2007, Jackson had the honor of serving as a featured speaker at the Washita Battlefield National Historic Site’s grand opening for its new visitor’s center in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. He began writing professionally at age eighteen as a sports reporter in Vacaville, California, covering everything from Major League Baseball to the National Football League to world championship boxing. He is presently a staff writer with The Oklahoman in Oklahoma City, and lives on the state’s western prairie with his wife, Jeannia, and their four children, Joseph, Ashley, Tristan, and Missouri.
